At last night’s meeting we welcomed our new RYLA student, Timothy Sebastian, a student at Abbey Grange church of England School, Leeds, and his father.
RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is a Rotary International program designed to develop leadership and citizenship skills in young people aged 14-30. It’s organized by Rotary clubs and districts, providing intensive leadership experiences that include seminars, retreats, and camps. RYLA events aim to help participants improve confidence, understand themselves, develop leadership skills, make connections, and form lasting friendships.
RYLA events typically last for a few days and involve presentations, activities, and workshops. They can be demanding and require some degree of physical fitness. Participants have the opportunity to:
- Build their communication and problem-solving skills.
- Learn how to arrange youth activities and community service projects.
- Develop leadership qualities, teamwork, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
- Gain experience in team problem-solving and conflict management.
- Connect with leaders in their community and around the world.
RYLA is a way for Rotary to invest in the future leaders of their communities. It offers a unique opportunity for young people to develop their leadership potential through a variety of activities and challenges.
We look forward to welcoming him back in September when he will tell us about his experiences.
