Tony Ray took a group of members on a walking tour of Headingley on 31 January 2023.
Fortunately the sun was shining as we zig zagged around the fascinating roads, ginnels and pathways fully engrossed in the history of this area. Who would have thought there was a wood in the centre of it all? Not to mention the beautiful gothic style house sitting over the ridge down towards the Meanwood valley. Famous people of history, an artist, a Poet Laureat and a house which featured on BBC ‘A House through time’ series all featured.
We even finished our tour at ‘The Golden Bean’ Weatherstone Pub which had a history of its own: first as a Christian Scientists church, then a performance venue for Leeds Girl’s High School and now sympathetically restored as a public house.
