We have had a busy and exciting start to the Autumn programme and due to the holidays we have been slow in reporting all our news.

September saw us hearing an excellent speaker, Jenny Fenwick, who told us about her treasured Mary Quant dress being the star show at an exhibition at London’s V and A Museum.

Next came our lunchtime visit to the Golden Beam in Headingley. This is always an enjoyable occasion when lots of informal chats and ideas are aired and plans made.

We then visited Aireborough Club the following week and heard all their news in Horsforth Golf Club.

As reported on a previous post Timothy Sebastion, our RYLA student, told us about his leadership training on the 4th Tuesday of the month. What an inspirational chap he was.

October was little different. Dr Richard Hobson spoke about his spending winter in the Antarctica and even though a medic there to care for the crew he was called to lots more and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure.

The Clubs 52nd birthday celebration was a very happy occasion and rather than a speaker we had some entertainment by Jessica Frost. The Carvery Buffet was well appreciated and made the event less formal than usual.

World Polio Day followed on 24th October and despite the terribly cold and wet day the Club with the help of other Leeds clubs, were able to raise £500 for the campaign. Cash is always a problem at these collections so we were grateful for our Sum Up machine taking card readings.

The 12th Annual Bridge Drive took place the following Monday and once again proved a very popular event. Members of Headingley joined together to help the afternoon go smoothly and both lady members and wives of members worked hard to do the catering. We were able to raise over £1k for two charities this year, The Yorkshire Ambulance and OPAL (Older Peoples Action in the Location). For the first time there was a tie for first place co they all got a box of chocs and even the wooden spoons proved a bit of fun.

To start November was a very interesting talk by Glenn McCauley – Space Hub Yorkshire. An intriguing subject explaining how Leeds University was involved in bring companies together who were using space technology to aid their businesses.

Now the quiz night is looming. Always a popular event in aid of YAA. If you would like to join us, please use the contact information on the flyer with your choice of menu. See you there!
